Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) will ensure residents' Activities of Daily Living (ADL) needs are met as outlined in the plan of care. This will be done in accordance with policies and procedures within a safe and comfortable environment. Responsibilities include providing hygiene, grooming, dressing, incontinence/catheter care, elimination/toileting needs, turning/positioning, and skin care. Documentation must be completed per protocol. Maintaining residents' environment and safety is crucial.
This includes responding to call lights and alarms promptly and providing safety mats and low beds as necessary. The use of restraints will be under the direction of nursing personnel. Cleanliness of the unit and behavior and fall prevention will also be part of the responsibilities. Monitoring for malfunctioning equipment is required. Again, documentation must be completed per protocol. Meeting residents' nutritional needs is essential as outlined in their plans of care.
This includes meal delivery, tray preparation, adaptive equipment, feeding, and provision of nourishment as needed. Residents' preferences and choices should always be honored. Documentation must be completed per protocol. The CNA will assist with residents' rehabilitative needs as outlined in their plans of care. This covers range of motion, ambulation, transfers, proper body alignment, and use of assistive devices. Documentation must be completed per protocol.
It is important to report residents' rights, refusals, and concerns to the Charge Nurse or Supervising Nurse in a timely manner. Changes in residents' physical, emotional, and psychosocial status must be identified and reported promptly. Occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens is reasonably anticipated. Required tasks may involve potential contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues.
