Nursing Assistant
The Nursing Assistant performs various patient care activities and related non-professional services necessary to address the personal needs and comfort of patients in an environment that promotes dignity and healing. This role includes performing vital signs and activities of daily living as outlined in the plan of care, inclusive of ADLs. Assists with hourly rounding and documents care rendered per guidelines.
Meets nutritional needs of patients as outlined in the plan of care and in accordance with policies and procedures. Performs meal delivery, sets up trays and adaptive equipment, assists with feeding, and distributes nourishments while honoring patient choices. Properly documents care per policy, protocol, and procedure. Maintains patient comfort and safety as outlined in the plan of care and in accordance with policies and procedures.
Turns and positions patients, provides skin care, and immediately answers call lights/alarms. Places mats and positions low beds. Assures rehabilitation needs are met as outlined in the care plan and in accordance with policies and procedures, including ROM, ambulation, transfers, proper body alignment, and use of assistive devices. Documents rehabilitation activities per guidelines. Identifies changes in patient physical and emotional status and promptly reports these changes to the nurse.
Appropriately participates in shift change communication, providing complete and relevant information about patients for whom care was provided. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, computer literacy, and a patient-centered focus. Possesses basic knowledge of healthcare and the nursing assistant role. Demonstrates behaviors consistent with the principles of being professional, communicating effectively, and attending to the environment. This includes ensuring safety, promoting dignity, respect, well-being, and exemplifying healthy relationships.
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care specific to the patient age group served on the assigned unit. Possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs. Provides the care needed for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient groups. There is occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens.
Required tasks involve potential contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues.
