Nursing Assistant

The Nursing Assistant performs various patient care activities and related non-professional services necessary to address the personal needs and comfort of patients. This role is essential in creating an environment that promotes dignity and healing. Responsibilities include performing vital signs and activities of daily living as outlined in the plan of care, inclusive of ADLs. Assists with hourly rounding and documents care rendered per guidelines.

Meets the nutrition needs of patients as outlined in the plan of care, and in accordance with policies and procedures. Performs meal delivery, sets up trays and adaptive equipment, assists with feeding, and distributes nourishments while honoring patient choices. Properly documents care per policy, protocol, and procedure. Maintains patient comfort and safety as outlined in the plan of care and in accordance with policies and procedures.

Turns and positions patients, provides skin care, and responds to call lights and alarms promptly. Assures rehabilitation needs are met as outlined in the care plan, including range of motion, ambulation, transfers, proper body alignment, and use of assistive devices. Documents rehabilitation per guidelines. Identifies changes in patient physical and emotional status and reports these changes promptly to nursing staff.

Participates in shift changeover communication, providing complete and relevant information about patients in care. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and computer literacy, focusing on customer service and patient-centered care. Possesses basic knowledge of healthcare and/or the nursing assistant role. Must demonstrate behaviors consistent with principles of a healing environment, including professionalism and effective communication. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate for patients across the lifespan.

Understands principles of growth and development and can assess data reflective of patient status. The individual will provide care meeting specific needs for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens is reasonably anticipated, with required tasks involving potential contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues.
