Job DescriptionThe Carbon Commercial Specialist, based in Geneva (Switzerland), is part of the global Sustainability and Energy Transition team. They have both an analytical and commercial role. They are a subject‑matter expert in carbon markets (primarily but not exclusively voluntary) and support the team with analysis of supply & demand (and pricing), policy developments and relevant news. They also commercialise LDC’s carbon credits portfolio to a wide range of counter parties (end‑buyers and intermediaries) and maintain a network of external commercial relationships.
MainResponsibilities
- Analyze the carbon market based on external and internal analysis. Understand macro fundamentals and supply/demand movements, inform pricing strategy, and contribute with insights to the management of LDC’s carbon credits portfolio.
- Analyze policy developments in the voluntary carbon market and carbon compliance schemes across the globe where carbon credits are usable, in order to identify commercial opportunities for LDC.
- Distribute weekly market wires to the Sustainability and Energy Transition team, recapping relevant policy, market news and trade highlights.
- Develop and maintain external relationships and network with end‑user customers, intermediaries, brokers, wholesalers, retailers, consultants, and other key players/stakeholders in order to commercialise LDC’s carbon credits portfolio.
- Identify, negotiate and close spot over‑the‑counter carbon credit transactions with counter parties. Ensure timely entry of trades into the position‑management system & validate positions and P&Ls for use in shaping position strategy. Liaise with back‑office teams to ensure timely delivery of carbon credits in carbon registries.
- Actively contribute to and participate in the establishment of a carbon expert knowledge centre within LDC to embed carbon within the full value chain.
- Organise / participate in internal workshops and presentations to transfer knowledge.
- 3+ years in a commercial position in the voluntary carbon credits market (e.g. origination, sales, business development)
- Strong analytical skills to understand, use and/or develop methodologies and tools to evaluate supply & demand dynamics and policy developments in carbon markets
- Solid understanding of hedge & position management, balance sheet analysis & P&L reporting
- Autonomy and independence. Highly open/adaptable to changing environments
- Team player and contributor with very good interpersonal and communication skills
- Builder of relationships with all kinds of people, from small producers to senior traders
- Curious, ability to ask questions and think creatively
- Ability to follow‑up on projects and ideas
- Interested in solving problems and taking decisions
- Strong proficiency in MS Office and databases
- English is a must, other languages strongly valued (Spanish and/or Portuguese)
