Our client, as its trading activities and financing requirements are evolving towards more sophisticated structures.
The successful candidate will work at the intersection of trading, financing and transaction execution
, with significant autonomy and direct exposure to the company's decision-makers.
The primary responsibility will be to develop and execute financing solutions supporting physical commodity transactions and the company's broader commercial ambitions.
The scope will include:- structuring financing around physical commodity flows;
- pre-financing and prepayment solutions;
- borrowing-base and inventory-backed facilities;
- receivables and collateral-based financing;
- bilateral and other secured facilities;
- analysis and negotiation of financing terms and security packages;
- interaction with financing banks and external counter parties;
- close collaboration with traders on new transactions and commercial opportunities.
The person joining will be expected to understand the economics and risks of a transaction, challenge proposed structures and identify appropriate financing solutions rather than simply administer existing facilities.
At the same time, the environment requires versatility. The successful candidate must remain comfortable with the fundamentals of Trade Finance and be willing to support the broader finance team when required.
Your profilWe are particularly interested in professionals who have developed their Structured Finance expertise within trading firms.
Relevant candidates are likely to demonstrate:- substantial experience in Structured Commodity Finance;
- a successful track record within an established physical commodity trading company;
- exposure to several types of secured or structured financing;
- a strong understanding of how financing interacts with physical trading;
- experience dealing directly with banks, traders and counter parties;
- the ability to take a transaction from analysis and structuring through negotiation and execution;
- sound knowledge of traditional Trade Finance instruments;
- the judgement and independence required to operate without a large organisational infrastructure.
A combination of banking and trading-house experience can be particularly valuable, provided the candidate has acquired meaningful experience on the corporate/trading side.
Energy experience is highly relevant, although candidates from other physical commodity sectors with strong transferable Structured Finance expertise will also be considered.
The position will suit someone who is technically strong but remains commercially minded and hands-on.
It may particularly appeal to a professional currently working within a larger organisation who is looking for greater ownership of transactions, closer proximity to the business and a more entrepreneurial environment
