Collège du Léman is one of Switzerland’s most prestigious international day and boarding schools, located on the edge of Lake Geneva in view of the Swiss Alps. The Head of House is a residential, middle leadership role with responsibility for the effective running of a boarding house and the development of its culture, routines, and relationships. In addition to day-to-day operational oversight, each Head of House leads on a strategic area of whole-boarding development. This role is key to delivering high standards of care and supervision aligned with the ethos and expectations of Collège du Léman.
Heads of House also ensure their team provides a structured, supportive, and safe environment for all students. Each HoH is expected to undertake the duties and responsibilities of a House Parent as described in the relevant role description. They are required to reside in one of the allocated boarding house apartments.
Leadership & line management
- Line manage House Parents and Graduate Assistants within the assigned boarding house.
- Provide day-to-day mentoring, supervision, and support to boarding staff.
- Contribute to onboarding, training, and appraisal processes.
- Attend Boarding Leadership Team meetings and collaborate with other HoHs and Deputies to drive improvement.
House management
- Ensure the smooth daily running of the house including routines, behaviour, student communication, and health & safety.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment.
- Oversee room allocations, sign-out procedures, evening supervision, and emergency procedures.
- Ensure timely and effective communication with families.
- Monitor the academic progress, emotional wellbeing, and social development of all students in the House.
- Liaise with teachers, tutors, counsellors, and medical staff to coordinate support where necessary.
- Apply behavioural expectations consistently and promote a positive, respectful culture.
Strategic focus area (each head of house leads one):
- Student Life & House Culture – Lead initiatives to build house spirit, student voice, and celebration.
- Weekend Coordination – Manage weekend planning, risk assessments, and feedback systems for trips and activities.
Health & safety & compliance
- Ensure house facilities are kept to a high standard; report maintenance issues promptly.
- Complete regular checks and respond to findings from termly house inspections.
- Promote compliance with safeguarding standards and health & safety procedures.
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and organisational skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities
- Confidence in decision-making and problem-solving under pressure
- Ability to manage staff performance and student wellbeing
- Understanding of adolescent development and multicultural sensitivity
- Proficiency in administrative tools and reporting systems (e.g. iSAMS)
