About the Role
Our client is seeking a skilled Agricultural Agronomist to join their team in George . This role is integral to enhancing crop productivity and sustainability for local farms. You will be responsible for analyzing soil conditions, recommending appropriate fertilizers and crop management techniques, and advising farmers on best practices. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of plant science and soil chemistry, enabling them to provide expert guidance that supports the agricultural community in the Western Cape .
This position offers a unique blend of fieldwork and technical analysis, contributing to the region's agricultural success.
- Conduct soil testing and analysis to determine nutrient deficiencies and recommend appropriate amendments.
- Develop and advise on crop rotation, planting schedules, and irrigation strategies tailored to specific crops and soil types.
- Monitor crop health, identify pests and diseases, and recommend effective, environmentally sound control measures.
- Research and introduce new crop varieties and farming technologies to improve yields and quality.
- Provide technical support and training to farmers on best agronomic practices.
- Maintain detailed records of field trials, recommendations, and outcomes.
- Bachelor's degree in Agronomy , Crop Science, Soil Science, or a related agricultural discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in agronomy or agricultural extension services.
- Knowledge of various crop types common in the Southern Cape region.
- Proficiency in soil sampling techniques and laboratory analysis interpretation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent report-writing abilities.
- Ability to work independently and travel to various farm locations.
