Position: Diesel / Forklift Mechanic

We are looking for a skilled, reliable, and motivated Field Service Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the servicing, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of forklifts and related material-handling equipment.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Matric / Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Qualified Diesel and/or Petrol Mechanic with forklift experience, or Qualified Forklift Mechanic.
  • 3–5 years’ experience working on forklifts or similar material-handling equipment.
  • Good mechanical, hydraulic and electrical knowledge.
  • General knowledge of auto-electrical systems.
  • Trade Test Certificate – Mechanic.
  • Valid Code 8 driver’s licence.
  • Valid forklift operator licence.
  • Good written and spoken English.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance on forklifts.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults accurately.
  • Carry out repairs and breakdown maintenance on customer equipment.
  • Inspect forklifts and identify worn, damaged or faulty components.
  • Test equipment after repairs to ensure it is safe and operating correctly.
  • Use diagnostic equipment, specialised tools and technical manuals correctly.
  • Read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics, diagrams and manufacturer specifications.
  • Attend to customer breakdowns and service calls in a professional and timely manner.
  • Complete service reports, job cards and other required documentation accurately.
  • Report additional repairs, faults and parts requirements to the relevant department.
  • Ensure all work is completed according to required safety and quality standards.
  • Maintain tools, equipment and the service vehicle in good working condition.
  • Keep the work area clean, safe and organised.
  • Ensure customers receive professional and courteous service at all times.
  • Follow company procedures, safety requirements and customer site rules.
  • Work closely with the Parts, Rental, Service and Sales Departments.
  • Assist with technical support and provide feedback on recurring equipment problems.
  • Keep up to date with new forklift models, technology, diagnostic equipment and repair methods.
  • Be available for overtime, standby and emergency breakdowns when required.
