Fiber Optic Technician - Telecoms

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Fiber Optic Technician to join their operations team in George . This role is crucial for the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic networks that are the backbone of our client's telecoms services. You will be responsible for ensuring high-quality connectivity for customers, working both independently and as part of a field service team.

This position requires a hands-on approach, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and service excellence in the beautiful region of the Western Cape .

• Install, test, and splice fiber optic cables according to industry standards and company procedures.
• Diagnose and repair fiber optic network faults and outages, ensuring minimal downtime.
• Perform regular maintenance checks and proactive repairs on fiber optic infrastructure.
• Read and interpret fiber optic schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
• Operate specialized testing equipment, such as OTDRs, fusion splicers, and power meters.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, including installation details and test results.

• Proven experience as a Fiber Optic Technician or in a similar role.
• Proficiency in fiber optic splicing, termination, and testing techniques.
• Familiarity with telecoms industry standards and safety protocols.
• Ability to read and understand technical drawings and specifications.
• Experience with OTDR, VFL, and other fiber optic testing equipment.
• Valid driver's license and a clean driving record for work in the George area.
