Summary Statement

An incumbent is responsible for developing and improving curricula, instructing assigned courses consistent with syllabi, evaluating student learning, and fostering student success.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and instruct courses as assigned, using effective instructional strategies, the learning management system, and educational technology to promote student success. Normal teaching contact hours per week are 18.
  • Demonstrate best practices in instruction and classroom management that respond to students’ diverse academic needs.
  • Use instructional technology, including multimedia, to meet students’ learning needs and achieve program objectives.
  • Assist or lead in planning and developing new curriculum and courses; evaluate and revise existing curriculum as part of the annual evaluation process; contribute to program review.
  • Participate in planning and implementation of Student Learning Outcomes Assessment (SLOA).
  • Serve as advisor for students using advisement strategies to promote retention and progression.
  • Assist students toward successful completion of courses through outreach, guidance, feedback, supplemental instruction, tutoring, and other approved academic support; provide a minimum of six posted office hours per week.
  • Maintain accurate student records in the LMS and report student progress and attendance in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with other faculty and staff to facilitate program operations and achieve goals; provide guidance to new and adjunct faculty as needed.
  • Assist in attaining and maintaining program accreditation.
  • Complete the New Faculty Development Program within the one‑year probationary period; complete the Instructional Design Technology Certificate or demonstrate mastery of its competencies.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and remain current within the nursing field.
  • Participate in departmental, campus, and college meetings and committees, and student‐related activities.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of college policies and objectives (e.g., program planning, marketing, budgeting, public relations).
  • Support recruitment, enrollment, advisement, transfer, and graduate employment activities as assigned.
  • Participate in day, evening, and weekend program staffing when requested.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

  • Knowledge of effective instructional techniques and methods.
  • Knowledge of nursing subject matter in adult medical surgical.
  • Knowledge of computers and electronic instructional methodology.
  • Knowledge of competency‑based learning.
  • Ability to develop and use teaching strategies that promote learning for diverse students.
  • Ability to use assessment to enhance learning.
  • Ability to understand, evaluate, and appropriately use instructional technology.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing;
    Master’s degree preferred.
  • Four (4) years of nursing experience, primarily in adult medical surgical.
  • Valid license to practice as a registered nurse in Delaware or a compact state at the time of application and during employment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of nursing subject matter, teaching methods, clinical skills, and nursing protocols; ability to communicate this knowledge to a diverse population and function in a clinical setting without limitation.
