Qualifications Required

In order to meet the Instructional Paraprofessional job qualifications, you must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Associate Degree or higher
  • Completion of 50 credit hours with a 'C' or better passing test score on the Para Pro or Para Pathways Assessment & official high school transcript or FED equivalency

Preferred:
Associate's degree or higher. Previous experience working with high school students. Experience supporting students with diverse academic, behavioral, or social-emotional needs. Familiarity with instructional technology and student information systems. Experience in a school or educational setting.

Provides instruction and student support services that promote academic success, independence, and college, career, and life readiness within the high school learning environment.

Position Summary

Reporting directly to the High School Dean, the High School Paraprofessional delivers instructional and student support services that promote student learning, positive classroom experiences, and student success within Sussex Academy's high school program. The High School Paraprofessional delivers individualized and small-group support by working collaboratively with classroom teachers and school staff to reinforce instruction, strengthen student engagement, promote positive behavior, and foster student independence, self-advocacy, and personal responsibility.

The High School Paraprofessional serves as a flexible member of the instructional team by providing support in classrooms and school wide settings, adapting to the evolving needs of students, teachers, and the organization, and fulfilling other assigned responsibilities.

Position Responsibilities

Instructional Support:

  • Deliver instructional support that reinforces classroom learning and promotes student success.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to reinforce standards-aligned instruction and learning objectives.
  • Provide instructional support to individual students, small groups, and classrooms based on instructional and organizational needs.
  • Reinforce academic skills through guided practice, intervention activities, accommodations, and differentiated instructional strategies.
  • Prepare instructional materials and classroom resources that support effective teaching and learning.
  • Encourage student engagement, organization, self-advocacy, and ownership of learning.

Student Development Support:

  • Support the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development of high school students.
  • Build positive relationships that foster student confidence, responsibility, and success.
  • Support classroom expectations and school wide behavior systems aligned with Sussex Academy's mission, vision, and core values.
  • Promote positive student interactions, leadership, ethical decision-making, and responsible citizenship.
  • Assist in meeting the individual learning and developmental needs of students.
  • Encourage students to develop executive functioning skills, independence, self-management, and readiness for postsecondary success.

Classroom

Collaboration:

  • Work collaboratively with instructional staff to strengthen student learning and classroom effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, specialists, counselors, interventionists, and administrators to support student success.
  • Communicate effectively regarding student progress and instructional needs.
