Position: Engineer I – Engineering & Compliance Section

Sign-On Bonuses

Incentives are based on the position classification:

  • $4,000 Engineer I
  • $5,000 Engineer II
  • $6,000 Engineer III
  • $7,000 Engineer IV

Incentives are paid in two installments: one after three months of employment and the second after eighteen months from the initial date of employment. New employees accepting this recruitment bonus must commit to two consecutive years of employment with DNREC in the Engineer I-IV series. Must be a new hire to the State of Delaware or new to the Engineer classification series within the State of Delaware.

Summary

Statement

This position includes permitting and compliance work for minor and major facilities in the State of Delaware. Air permits authorize the construction and operation of equipment pliance work ensures that businesses are operating in accordance with the Federal and State regulations as well as in a responsible manner that is protective of the air quality of the State of Delaware.

Essential Functions
  • Drafts, develops and modifies engineering designs, plans and specifications.
  • Reviews permit applications, blueprints and/or designs prepared by others to ensure compliance with specifications and regulations.
  • Applies the principles and theories of science and mathematics to research and develop solutions to technical problems.
  • Plans and conducts field studies, surveys, research and development projects, inspections and/or investigations to collect data and ensure conformance to state/federal laws and regulations.
  • Tests or evaluates materials, equipment, systems and facilities.
  • Plans and coordinates engineering projects.
  • Reviews, analyzes and reports on the status of projects and/or regulatory conformance.
  • Develops cost estimates for project time and materials.
  • Provides technical guidance and training to technical staff.
Job Requirements
  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree or higher (or have an anticipated graduation date within 9 months) in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering or official notice of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).
Telework and Flexible Schedules

The State of Delaware recognizes the value of telework and flexible working schedules. This position is eligible for telework and alternative work schedules according to the State of Delaware’s Alternative Work Arrangement Policy.

  • DNREC does not provide sponsorship for holders of H-1B visas.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
  • All new hires are required to report to the Statewide New Employee Orientation (SNEO) on their first day of employment. Sessions are held at designated locations in Kent or New Castle County.
