Vital Core Health Strategies (VCHS), an industry leader in Correctional Health Care, has an opening for a Substance Use Disorder Counselor at Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown, DE for Full-Time. Pay is based on experience and having a CADC.
OverviewThe SUD Counselor works as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing a proactive and collaborative approach in serving the patient population. The role involves crisis stabilization, completing intakes and ongoing evaluations, and offering consultation to both in‑house and community services.

- Graduation from a Bachelor's level program or higher
- Employment in a clinician/counselor/social work capacity in a public or private agency or equivalent preferred
- Must have a substance use certification (CADC, CAADC) or be actively working toward obtaining one within two years of hire
- Individuals not certified must be under the direct supervision of a certified clinical supervisor with written documentation of supervision
- Flexibility to work days, evenings, and weekends
- Provide crisis stabilization, complete intakes and ongoing evaluations, and offer consultation to in‑house and community services
- Participate in monthly behavioral health calls and collaborate with the medical team to determine overall treatment for each individual
- Perform risk assessment of inmates; coordinate care with the interdisciplinary team, including medical staff, community providers, psychiatric hospitals, and corrections; assist with discharge planning
- Assist in planning and implementing the goals and objectives of programs and projects
- Prepare documentation, records, and reports
- Utilize clinical skills such as prioritizing treatment needs, crisis management, brief interventions including CBT and Motivational Interviewing
- Possess excellent and timely documentation skills
- Make independent clinical decisions while utilizing assistance and supervisory intervention as needed
