A Unit Clerk who excels in this role:
- Provides administrative support for scheduling, admitting, medical records, discharge planning, and secretarial functions for the department.
- Greets patients, families, and visitors in a professional and courteous manner.
- Initiates codes, paging requests, and overhead announcements as needed.
- Performs clerical duties such as copying, filing, and ordering/stocking supplies.
- Follows patient safety protocols, including restraints, seizure precautions, and fall precautions. Assists with safe patient transport in accordance with established procedures.
- Responds to patient call lights, triage routine versus urgent needs, and assist licensed staff and CNAs as directed.
Qualifications and requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Previous clerical, administrative, or healthcare support experience is preferred.
- Basic life support (BLS) is preferred.
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work under minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment.
