Responsibilities

As a Lube and Tire Technician at Coughlin, you will:

  • Lubricate Vehicles - Lubricate all moving engine parts of vehicles by rubbing specific lubricants onto these engine parts.
  • Clean Engines - Lube techs clean engine parts to remove grime and buildup, and apply lubricant to these parts to restore them back to good working order.
  • Inspect Vehicles - Perform vehicle inspections that include examining and testing multiple points of interest on the vehicle, and checking thoroughly for oil leaks. This includes checking all fluid levels in the vehicle, including windshield washing liquid.
  • Inspect Tires - Check vehicle tires and test the air pressure.
  • Change Oil - Drain existing oil from vehicles and replace it with new oil, ensuring that the proper type of oil is used.
  • Replace Filters - Perform filter replacement in engines, including air filters and oil filters.
  • Check Electrical Components - Check electrical components on vehicles, such as testing the horn and the lights.
  • Make Recommendations - For further service on vehicles based on inspections.
  • Follow Safety Procedures - Follow all company and common-sense safety practices, such as turning engines on only when in a well-ventilated area and ensuring that vehicles are in the right gear before the ignition is turned.

Education and Experience

Automotive Technology, Vocational/Trade Certificate, High School Diploma or equivalent.

Job Qualifications
  • Valid Driver's License and quality driving record
  • Automobile repair experience
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, and tools used in vehicle repair and maintenance
Skills Requirements

Basic computer skills to utilize the timekeeping system. Ability to learn the parts department computer inventory and ordering system.

Communication Skills

Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to communicate effectively with customers and company personnel.

Attendance Expectations

The position requires regular and predictable attendance in‑person at an automotive dealership. Scheduled shifts are typically five days per week, rotating Saturdays, and may include holidays. Service departments are closed on Sundays and only open until 6 p.m. during the week.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Duties are performed primarily in the automotive service area. Work includes movement around vehicles, working in various physical positions, and the safe operation of power tools and test equipment.

May be exposed to loud noise, vibration, exhaust fumes, and other service and repair conditions. Frequently interacts with customers, service advisors and the service manager.

Verbal and Writing Ability

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to customers and other employees.

Math Ability

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations. Ability to understand and follow technical manuals.
