Position: Research Scientist - Computed Tomography (Orange, OH)

Job Title Research Scientist - Computed Tomography (Orange, OH)

As an important member of the Computed Tomography (CT) Imaging Physics and Algorithm team, the Research Scientist will develop innovative physics‑based solutions/corrections and support medical imaging platform needs by leading image quality improvements in CT by developing cutting‑edge Photon Counting systems.

Your role :
  • Apply system‑level engineering approach to develop CT/X‑ray imaging features, focusing on signal and image processing, CT reconstruction, and calibration to optimize image quality. Leverage strong systems‑level and scanner experience to ensure end‑to‑end performance across the imaging chain.
  • Investigate and resolve image quality issues during product introduction and from the installed base, communicating findings clearly to stakeholders. Deliver safe, effective, and well‑documented solutions based on rigorous data analysis.
  • Develop and enhance R&D tools for physics‑based simulation and image formation, including benchmarks, dataflow requirements, and Software Requirement Specifications. Work primarily in MATLAB, with increasing use of Python and optional C++ for performance‑critical components.
  • Maintain deep expertise in CT physics and advanced processing algorithms, with strong emphasis on photon‑counting CT as a top priority. Bring additional knowledge in spectral, dual‑energy, and multi‑energy CT, as well as cone beam CT, enabling improved material differentiation and image quality optimization.
  • Drive innovation by owning the CT imaging physics roadmap and aligning with business strategy across clinical, marketing, and systems teams. Stay current on emerging technologies such as AI/deep learning, contribute to IP and publications, and represent the organization in regulatory and industry engagements.
You're the right fit if:
  • You have 3+ years of combined professional and graduate‑level research experience in Physics/Medical Imaging (CT and/or X‑ray preferred) as an individual contributor.
  • You have a minimum of a Ph.D. in Physics, Mathematics, Biomedical, Electrical, or Nuclear Engineering (or related field), with a background in the theory of medical image formation and reconstruction (preferred).
  • You bring strong technical expertise in CT/X‑ray imaging, signal and image processing, CT reconstruction, calibration, and systems‑level/scanner understanding. Differentiating skills include experience with photon counting and/or spectral CT (dual/multi‑energy imaging), as well as cone beam CT, physics‑based simulation, and hands‑on prototype or scanner work.
  • You are experienced in MATLAB (primary), Python (increasing use), and C++ (preferred), including GUI and C‑MEX functionality, and familiarity with AI/deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, Tensor Flow preferred).
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document and clearly explain complex algorithms, imaging chain trade‑offs, and cross‑functional impacts to non‑specialists.
  • You must be able to successfully perform the following minimum Physical, Cognitive and Environmental job requirements with or without accommodation for this position. Travel up to 10% may be required.
