State Product Manager - Personal Lines
Nationwide’s Property and Casualty team is searching for passionate, results‑driven leaders to manage state‑specific personal lines portfolios. We need individuals with strong strategic thinking, data‑driven insights, and the ability to influence and align cross‑functional stakeholders to drive profitability and growth.
Job OverviewAs a State Product Manager, you will create and execute multi‑year, state‑specific business strategies that align with Enterprise goals. Your role involves launching and refining product offerings—including pricing, underwriting appetite, product structure, and distribution—while ensuring P&L objectives are met. You will partner with Sales, Marketing, Operations, Claims, Actuarial, Underwriting, Technology, and Legal teams to build win‑win strategies for the assigned states.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, implement, and manage strategic plans for designated states to meet or exceed Personal Lines objectives.
- Analyze and review financial results, product profitability, business mix, and competitive data to forecast performance.
- Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, Operations, Claims, Actuarial, Underwriting, Technology, and Legal to align stakeholder initiatives with state strategies.
- Monitor performance, communicate findings, and influence actions on product pricing, strategy, and financial results.
- Maintain in‑depth knowledge of personal lines industry trends, state regulatory environments, and economic conditions.
- Build and maintain relationships with state regulatory agencies and trade associations.
- Coordinate cross‑functional communication and facilitate updates across the state management team.
- Translate data and strategic concepts into clear, actionable communications for internal and external audiences.
- Lead associate management activities, including performance, salary planning, development, hiring, and disciplinary actions for direct reports.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by leadership.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in insurance, actuarial science, mathematics, risk management, economics, finance, accounting, business administration, or related field. MBA preferred. - License/Certification:
Progress toward or completion of CPCU, AU CIC, INS ARM, actuarial exams or similar designations preferred. - Experience:
Minimum eight years in underwriting or product management. Cross‑functional experience and data analysis skills are highly valued. - Knowledge:
Core business functions, personal lines products, pricing architecture, state regulations, underwriting procedures, financial analysis, competitor data. - Technical:
Proficiency in analytical tools, relational databases, data visualization, and statistical software. Familiarity with query languages is a plus. - Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication, strong analytical thinking, problem‑solving, project management, political savvy, and organizational agility. - Leadership:
Demonstrated ability to inspire trust and foster collaboration across all levels of the organization.
