Project Engineer
This onsite Project Engineer role supports the construction of a new retail anchor within a large mixed-use development in Georgetown, Kentucky. You will work full-time on the project site, partnering closely with the onsite Superintendent and cross-functional teams to ensure the project stays on schedule, meets quality and safety standards, and runs efficiently from day to day. This position offers the opportunity to grow into a long-term role with future projects if you are open to relocating or traveling after this project concludes.
Responsibilities- Assist the onsite Superintendent with daily project activities and coordination tasks.
- Review and interpret construction drawings and technical documents to help identify and address QA/QC concerns.
- Support technology-related activities on the project, including use of construction software and digital tools.
- Update and maintain project schedules using construction scheduling software and Microsoft Office tools.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams, trade partners, and stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.
- Conduct regular site inspections inside the building, outside on the site, and within the project trailer to monitor progress and compliance.
- Provide technical support to the project team, helping resolve issues related to drawings, RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
- Maintain strict compliance with safety and quality standards, especially in areas with heavy equipment and active construction operations.
- Assist in managing project resources, including tracking materials, labor, and equipment needs.
- Prepare and deliver status reports and updates for stakeholders, documenting progress, issues, and resolutions.
- Proactively identify tasks where you can add value and support the project team without waiting for direction.
- High school diploma, GED, or higher level of education.
- At least 3 years of construction experience, preferably on active job sites.
- Full understanding of core construction terms and processes such as RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
- Hands-on experience working on construction sites with heavy equipment and established safety standards.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including tools such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Experience using construction scheduling software to create, update, or track project schedules.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical documents.
- Motivated self-starter who actively looks for ways to help and contribute to the project.
- Strong communication and coordination skills for working with cross-functional teams.
- Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining quality and safety on site.
Skills & Qualifications
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Proficiency with Procore or similar construction management platforms.
- Associate degree or higher in a related field such as construction management, engineering, or a similar discipline.
- Previous experience supporting large commercial or retail construction projects.
- Ability and willingness to relocate to Columbus, Indiana, or travel to other project sites after this project to pursue full-time opportunities.
- Strong organizational skills and comfort working with both digital and paper-based documentation.
This is a full-time, onsite position based in Georgetown, Kentucky, working primarily from a project trailer and within the active construction site, both inside the building and outdoors. The typical schedule is 5 days per week, totaling approximately 40 to 45 hours, with some Saturdays required based on project needs. When Saturday work is needed, the schedule flexes to allow a weekday off, such as taking Monday off after working Saturday.
You will work closely with field teams, trade partners, and project leadership in a dynamic environment that involves heavy equipment, evolving site conditions, and strict adherence to safety and quality standards.
