POSITION TITLE:

Instructional Assistant

• Demonstrate aptitude for the work to be performed.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
• High school graduate.
• 64 college credit hours or pass the Para Educator test for all instructional aides.
• Must be able to lift and/or carry a 50 lb. student.

REPORTS TO:

Teacher/Principal

JOB GOAL:
To provide a well‑organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.

• Under supervision of certified teacher, prepare for classroom activities.
• Works with small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.
• Assists individual children in need of special attention.
• Performs clerical duties.
• Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up by the teacher.
• Sets up audio‑visual equipment.
• Assists teacher with non‑instructional classroom duties, such as snack, toilet, and clothing routines.
• Checks notebooks, corrects papers and make‑up work.
• Assists in drill work.
• Assists with reading and storytelling.
• Assists small groups of students in the library.
• Participates in in‑service training programs.
• Other tasks that may be assigned.
