- Support the development of the “Lincoln Learning Lab” launched in 2026 as part of Freedom
250. - Lead volunteer groups in hands‑on data collection activities and foster civic stewardship.
- Promote participation in existing citizen science programs and enhance outreach.
- Collaborate with park staff to create engaging webpages, videos and social media posts that showcase collected data and highlight opportunities.
- Conduct data collection with volunteer teams and analyze results to inform future programs.
- Deliver engaging educational programming to K‑12 students and teachers to inspire interest in citizen science.
- Assist with virtual educational sessions to reach broader audiences.
- Create written and digital promotional materials to communicate the impact of citizen science initiatives.
- Utilize social media channels and the park website to share findings and promote community involvement.
- Develop dynamic webpages that highlight citizen science opportunities.
- Facilitate guided citizen science programs, maintaining an average of two programs per week after a two‑week training period.
- Create a minimum of four comprehensive lesson plans aligned with Kentucky state educational standards.
- Produce, record, and edit videos for the “Lincoln Learning Lab” covering park stories, stewardship, and community involvement.
- United States citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien.
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate; or not dropped out of secondary school and agrees to obtain a high school diploma prior to using the education award.
- Agree to provide information for eligibility and complete required criminal and security background checks.
- Availability for the entire 12‑week term.
- High school diploma or equivalent accreditation.
- Experience in public speaking and proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Strong time‑management skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Background or college coursework in education, environmental science, communication, biology, or related fields.
- Passion for environmental education and community engagement.
Field projects include walking both on and off trails, uneven terrain, and may involve up to five miles per day. Weather can be hot in summer, with average highs around 85 °F. A personal vehicle is required. No public transportation is available in the surrounding rural area.
HousingThe participant will live in park housing. The houses feature 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, shared common areas, and full kitchen and laundry facilities. Shared linens are provided; occupants are encouraged to bring personal bedding and kitchen supplies.
Vehicle and Driver's License Requirements- Valid driver's license to operate government vehicles.
- A personal vehicle is required for this position.
Physical Requirements
Full‑time service each week with potential for non‑traditional hours, overnight travel, and movement across varied terrain. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally may be required.
Time Requirements- Full‑time service each week; lunch breaks and days off not counted toward Ameri Corps hours.
