Teacher Assistant in Multiple Disabilities Classroom
Position Type- Support Staff / Teacher Assistant
The Darke County Educational Service Center is seeking a Teacher Assistant in the Multiple Disabilities intermediate classroom located at Mississinawa Valley Local Schools. Responsibilities will also include bus aide duties before and after school between Bradford Exempted Village School District and Mississinawa Valley (the day will begin and end at Bradford EVSD).

Qualifications- Must have a high school diploma and ability to meet certification requirements for an Educational Aide certificate.
- Shall possess a valid driver's license.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
- Shall pass the BCI/FBI background checks.

Job GoalsTo assist the instructor in the education of the students in a specific classroom.
Performance Responsibilities- Participate in team approach to student programming.
- Assist in planning and help carry out education programs.
- Assist in individual and small group activities.
- Assist with behavior problems and maintain discipline in the classroom.
- Assist in the supervision of outside or recreational activities of students.
- Assist in maintaining student attendance records.
- Assist in maintaining evaluation and testing records.
- Assist with toilet procedures and diapering of students.
- Assist students during lunch time.
- Assist with student bus boarding and unboarding.
- Construct or create educational aids for class or individual instruction.
- Participate in special training and staff development programs, staff meetings, and other specialized programs.
- May be assigned to one or more classrooms.
- May assist other departments when regular classrooms are closed.
- Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.
- Helps instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
- Remains free of an alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout employment in the ESC.
- Conducts other duties related to the Instructional/Teacher Aide duties as assigned by the Director of Pupil Services and/or designee.
- Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
- Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions.
- Occasional interaction among unruly children.
- Employed for 185 days at 7.25 hours per day.
- Salary to be established as per salary schedule.
- There will be no vacation pay incurred in this position.
- Holiday pay shall be given for the following days:
Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, and Memorial Day. - Retirement and Sick Leave days accumulated as determined by board policy.
- Board paid employee insurance benefits as per board policy and regulations.
Performance of this job will be evaluated by the instructor(s) to which assigned in cooperation with the Director of Pupil Services and/or designee in cooperation with the person being evaluated.
