Position: Professor, Director of the Institute for Native American Studies

Professor, Director of the Institute for Native American Studies

Position Summary: The Institute of Native American Studies (INAS) at the University of Georgia seeks a tenured professor to serve as Director. The Director will lead the Institute’s academic and administrative functions, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, coordinate programming, public outreach, curriculum development, and student and faculty engagement. The role will serve as liaison with tribal partners and collaborate with campus partners and the emerging Southeast Native American Studies Consortium.

Responsibilities
  • Tutor undergraduate and graduate courses in Native American studies.
  • Preside over steering committee and faculty meetings.
  • Coordinate INAS programming, public outreach, and curriculum development.
  • Facilitate student and faculty outreach and collaborative efforts with other campus programs.
  • Act as a UGA liaison with tribal research partners and affiliates.
  • Serve the Institute’s administrative and financial resources with oversight and accountability.
Qualifications
  • Terminal degree in a field related to Native American studies.
  • Associate or full professor rank with prior tenure and nomination for tenure upon appointment.
  • Demonstrated national reputation in the field.
  • Eligibility for tenure upon hire.
  • Strong administrative and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Active research agenda in Native American studies or related Indigenous comparative approaches.
  • Commitment to multidisciplinary collaboration and public engagement.
  • Experience working with tribal partners and community stakeholders.
  • Leadership in academia, including curriculum development and program administration.
