Hours: 37 hours per week

Location: Carlisle or Workington

Contract: Fixed-Term (12 Months)

Cumberland Council’s Sensory Impairment Team are seeking to appoint a Qualified Teacher of Blind/Vision Impaired children and young people (QTVI). The post is a full‑time, fixed‑term role for one year covering a maternity leave, requiring a start at the earliest possible date. It is a teachers’ main scale post and eligible for SEND points and UPS.

The work covers the whole of Cumberland with office base flexibility in either Carlisle or Workington.

As an integral member of the Sensory Impairment Team you will work alongside Qualified Teachers of the Deaf (QToDs), another QTVI, and Sensory Specialist Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs). The role is peripatetic, providing support to children and young people, schools and families across the region.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing educational support for blind/vision-impaired children and young people from preschool to post‑16.
  • Designing and delivering inclusive lessons and resources.
  • Communicating with teachers, families and external agencies.
  • Maintaining accurate records and progress reports.
  • Continuously developing professional skills and knowledge in specialist education.

Essential qualifications and experience:

  • Qualified Teacher of Blind/Vision Impaired children and young people (QTVI).
  • Experience working with blind/vision‑impaired children and young people.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Commitment to inclusive education and high aspirations for BVI C&YP.
