Interview Policy
Interviews may be conducted before the posting closes. This position is for the 2026‑2027 school year.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Successful completion of the para educator exam or 64 credit hours of college credit
- Willingness to receive Safe Crisis Management training during the first year of employment
N/A – Works with students under the guidance of the classroom teacher
Duties and Responsibilities- Prepares classroom activities, delivers specially designed instruction, and assists in implementing adaptations, modifications, and accommodations to the general curriculum under guidance of the classroom teacher.
- Performs clerical duties as directed by the teacher.
- Provides health services and assists students with self‑care under direction of the supervising teacher, including toileting, dressing, tube feeding, catheterization, and other needs.
- Assists in gathering and recording student progress data.
- Collaborates with the teacher to create, select, adapt, and evaluate materials appropriate for students with special needs.
- Provides support during small group instruction and individual sessions under the classroom teacher’s guidance.
- Supports students across settings, including the resource room, regular classroom, building, and community.
- Makes a patient attitude during stressful situations.
- Assists students with mobility challenges, including lifting, positioning, and using gross motor equipment such as standers and wheelchairs.
- Collaborates with therapists (PT, OT, Speech, etc.) in implementing therapy recommendations under direction of the supervising teacher per IEP.
- Assists in implementing IEP goals, behavior support, and management plans.
- Provides assistance in managing student behavior, including inappropriate or forceful behaviors, and may implement de‑escalation and safe physical intervention strategies.
- Adheres to ethical standards and confidentiality regarding student information.
- Refers parent requests for information about their child to the teacher.
- Works as a cooperative team member, fostering positive relationships throughout the building.
- Prevents self‑harm or harm to others in crisis situations using techniques learned in Safe Crisis Management training.
- Maintains Safe Crisis Management certification after initial training.
- Completes other tasks assigned by the supervising teacher or principal.
- Punctual and regular attendance.
- Work performed while standing, sitting, and/or walking.
- Ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
- Use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
- Ability to bend, squat, crawl, climb, and reach.
- Capability to lift, carry, push or pull light objects and students up to 50 lbs.
- Requirement to pass safe crisis management training.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
