We are seeking individuals who not only bring strong skills and experience, but also demonstrate a commitment to these values in their work performance.

Position Information
  • Position Title: Ignite Scholar, Research Assistant Professor
  • Position Type: Faculty
  • Department: Biomedical Sciences
  • Full or Part Time: Full Time
  • Pay Grade: 2
Program Overview

NEOMED’s Ignite Scholar Program is a fast‑track pathway to a tenure‑track faculty position for emerging elite scholars. Recent postdoctoral fellows or PhD graduates can choose either a Research Track or a Graduate Education Track, each designed to provide mentorship, resources, and support for a future leader in biomedical research or education.

What You will Do
  • Research Track: Focus 90% of your time on pioneering research with minimal initial teaching responsibilities as a Research Assistant Professor. You will develop a robust, independent research program in collaboration with a senior mentor at NEOMED and explore fields such as neuroscience, cardiovascular biology, cancer biology, tissue regeneration, motor control, health services research, or bioinformatics.
  • Graduate Education Track: Dedicate 50% of your time to advancing biomedical science education, including educational research, dissemination, and grant writing, while building a career as an educational scholar.
Benefits and Support

Upon successfully completing this 2‑to‑3 year program and meeting professional benchmarks, you will be automatically appointed to a tenure‑track assistant professor position. You will receive personalized guidance, regular check‑ins with a guidance committee, and support to refine research and teaching skills.

Comprehensive benefits include:

  • Healthcare Coverage: Competitive medical, dental, and vision insurance through Medical Mutual, FSA/HSA, disability, long‑term care, and life insurance.
  • Retirement: State retirement plan with 14% employer matching.
  • Paid Time Off: Generous vacation and sick leave plus 11 paid holidays per year.
  • Additional Benefits: Educational benefits, on‑site training, Lean Six Sigma certification, and wellness activities.
Principal Functional Responsibilities
  • Research: Protect at least 90% of time for research, conduct collaborative inquiry, publish papers, develop new initiatives with mentor, create research development plans, publish in high‑impact journals, and submit extramural grant applications.
  • Mentorship and Career Development: Work closely with mentor, attend meetings, participate in professional development, and network.
  • Teaching: Participate in graduate or medical student education; for the Research Track, perform approximately 5 hours of teaching per year. Upon transition to tenure‑track, teaching duties will be those of a full‑time tenure‑track faculty.
  • Service: No service requirement during the program; post‑transition duties will align with NEOMED standards.
  • Administrative and Collaborative Duties: Prepare grant proposals and reports, collaborate with other researchers, contribute to lab meetings and collaborative projects.
  • Miscellaneous Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Skills: Proficiency in relevant techniques; excellent written and verbal communication; ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Personal Attributes: Strong motivation and ambition; openness to mentorship; ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
