Butler County Special Education Interlocal #638 offers a variety of roles including Para educator, Behavior Technician, Teacher of the Deaf, High Incidence Teachers, Sign Language Interpreter, and other support positions. All positions require a passion for supporting students with exceptional needs and a commitment to professional development.
Para educator (Multiple Locations)Purpose: To improve the quality of the educational program offered to exceptional children.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct support to students in developing functional, vocational, academic, and daily living skills.
- Assist students in community-based instruction, job sites, volunteer placements, and other off-campus activities.
- Support instruction in areas such as communication, self‑advocacy, social skills, budgeting, hygiene, transportation, and workplace expectations.
- Implement accommodations, behavior support plans, and individualized education program (IEP) goals as directed by the supervising teacher.
- Promote student independence by encouraging problem‑solving, appropriate decision‑making, and self‑management skills.
- Supervise students to ensure safety in the classroom, community, and vocational environments.
- Model appropriate workplace behavior, social interactions, and communication.
- Collect data and document student progress as requested by the teacher or transition coordinator.
- Assist with preparing instructional materials and organizing classroom or community activities.
- Maintain a respectful, supportive, and inclusive environment for all students.
Job Requirements:
- A. Evidence of good mental and physical health.
- B. Correct articulation and language use.
- C. Attend required inservice(s).
- D. Keep abreast of para educator information sent in newsletters and memos.
- E. Ability to work in crowded, noisy environments.
- F. May require some travel.
- G. Ability to implement directions from the professional.
- H. Some lifting may be required.
- I. Ability to accept supervision from the supervising teacher.
Qualifications:
- A. Carry out remedial or developmental activities as directed by the certified person.
- B. Assist teachers and specialists in collection and preparation of instructional materials and equipment.
- C. Work with individual students.
- D. Work with small groups.
- E. Drill the entire class on follow‑up or reinforcement activities.
- F. Correct papers and check the work of students at the discretion of the instructor.
- G. Measure and chart behavior for each target as directed by the supervisor.
- H. Maintain a time log of activities, if necessary.
- I. Assist with classroom housekeeping chores.
- J. Prepare instructional aids, games, and bulletin boards at the discretion of the supervisor.
- K. Perform various clerical duties within the classroom, including data entry on computer.
- L. Supervise students on buses and/or at dismissal and/or on field trips.
- M. Supervise job training.
- N. Assist in carrying out programs set up by support personnel (OT, PT, speech and vocational).
- O. Maintain good public relations with parents, supervisor and co‑workers.
- P. Perform any and all duties as assigned by the supervisor(s).

Behavior Technician / Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)Job Summary: Supports students with behavioral, emotional, and developmental needs in the school environment. Implements individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs), collects data, and fosters a positive learning atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement behavior intervention plans.
- Support students in general education or special education classrooms to promote positive behaviors.
- Use strategies to increase skills in communication, social interaction, and academic engagement.
- Collect and record accurate data on student behavior and skill acquisition.
- Assist with crisis intervention and de‑escalation techniques as needed, while maintaining a calm disposition.
