Early Childhood Instructional Assistant Stipend: $1.00 per hour
Information about the Early Childhood ProgramThe Early Childhood Program focuses on providing students with a strong start to their school careers, preparing them for elementary school, and building confidence and readiness. Strong parent involvement is encouraged and valued across programs. The benefits to children and families are long-lasting, and research indicates that attending Early Childhood programs supports school success.
Scope of ResponsibilitiesUnder the direction of the supervising teacher or Principal, the instructional assistant participates as an integral member of the instructional program. Responsibilities include tutoring students, assisting in documenting pupil progress, preparing and organizing materials and equipment, instructing, and assisting bus drivers in supervising, loading, and unloading students.
Minimum Qualifications- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Passing score on the Kentucky Para-educator Assessment or 48 college semester hours.
- Demonstrated competent language skills, including reading and understanding word meanings and using them effectively.
- Successful experience working with children, individually or in groups.
- Program-specific certifications/trainings.
- All required trainings completed within 90 days of employment, including the required bus monitoring training.
Additional Information for High School / GED Applicants

If your highest education is High School or GED, you must take and pass the Kentucky Para educator Assessment Exam. The exam is free and there are three chances to obtain a passing score. For study assistance, refer to the KPA Study Guide and/or sign up for the KPA Prep Class with JCPS Adult Education. You can sign up here and select "I want KPA classes".
