Working Calendar: 187 Days / 7 Hours

As per Board-approved  salary placement rules/schedules.

Salary Range: $24.52/hr - $26.96/hr

ECE Instructional Assistant Stipend: $1.00 per hour

Information about ECE classrooms

Exceptional Child Education programs are designed to meet the needs of students whose approach to learning differs from their peers. The district provides high-quality education for students with disabilities. Assignments may include students in Moderate to Severe Disabilities (MSD), Mild Mental Disabilities (MMD), Other Health Impairments (OHI), Emotional Behavioral Disabilities (EBD), Autism (AUT), Visual Impairment (VI), Hearing Impairment (HI), Learning Disabilities (LD), or Social Communication needs.

Changes in assignment or ECE designation may occur during the school year or between school years as allocations are reviewed.

Scope of Responsibilities

Responsibilities are supportive. Assist in implementing each student’s individualized education plan. Help establish and maintain a pleasant, safe, and structured learning environment. Demonstrate willingness and aptitude to work with students with disabilities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Passing score on the Kentucky Para educator Exam (KPA) or 48 college semester hours
  • Willingness and aptitude to work with students with disabilities
  • Physical ability to assist with needs such as positioning, toileting, and lifting
  • Willingness to attend district ECE in-service for professional growth

Note: If your highest education is a High School Diploma or GED, you must take and pass the Kentucky Para educator Assessment (KPA). The exam is free and you have three chances to pass. Assistance for studying is available through KPA study resources and JCPS Adult Education.

Credential guidance: Applicants with transcripts obtained outside the U.S. must have credentials evaluated prior to being referred for vacancies by an approved agency.
