Construction-focused role supporting a new industrial project, with responsibility for the mechanical aspects of building systems. This position supports mechanical construction execution, commissioning, contractor coordination, inspections, and field engineering support in a manufacturing/industrial facility environment.
This role requires strong experience in industrial mechanical construction, including HVAC, cooling systems, and mechanical building systems. Residential or standard commercial construction backgrounds are not a fit.
Key Responsibilities- Support mechanical building system startups and commissioning activities.
- Review equipment submittals, shop drawings, engineering design drawings, specifications, and contractor RFIs.
- Coordinate with contractors and vendors for factory testing, equipment delivery, installation, commissioning, and handover.
- Support weekend and plant shutdown work planning with contractors and internal facility groups.
- Perform continuous work progress inspections and quality confirmations.
- Assist with construction administration including schedule coordination, utility outage planning, and weekly coordination meetings.
- Conduct inspections/observations to confirm compliance with specifications, quality standards, and applicable codes.
- Oversee mechanical contractor performance against project delivery methods and schedule milestones.
- Provide field engineering updates, progress reports, and schedule status to project leadership.
- Support daily construction execution, RFI tracking, and field-to-project management communication.
- Monitor installation methods to ensure alignment with drawings and technical requirements.
- Support estimating, schedules, materials tracking, and purchase order coordination (as needed).
- 5–10+ years of experience supporting industrial construction projects.
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical design or mechanical construction engineering.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical building systems, HVAC, and cooling systems.
- Proven experience in industrial or manufacturing construction (not residential or standard commercial).
- Strong working knowledge of construction means, methods, and field execution.
- Strong knowledge of building codes and standards including (but not limited to):
- IBC, NEC, NESC, NFPA, ASME, AMCA, ARI, AWS, ASHRAE, FM
- OSHA 30 certification.
- Strong safety knowledge for mechanical installations including lock-out/tag-out, electrical safe work practices, control of energy, and arc flash safety.
- Ability to review drawings and apply them in the field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain schedules daily/weekly/monthly.
- Ability to stand/walk for extended periods in a large industrial plant and access rooftops/equipment rooms via stairs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project).
- Automotive manufacturing facility experience (engine, transmission, vehicle facilities, or similar).
- Experience with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Project.
