Job Summary
We are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer located in Columbus, OH. The successful applicant will design, analyze, test, manufacture, and maintain mechanical components and systems. This entry-level position involves supporting the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of existing mechanical systems and working closely with engineers, technicians, and support staff across multiple client programs.

- Utilize computer aided design software (Solid Works and/or Creo).
- Understand and apply the principles of machining and fabrication to designs.
- Generate and interpret engineering schematic and drawing packages.
- Apply principles of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
- Produce technical drawing packages to support component and assembly fabrication.
- Work closely with clients and associate contractors to define system requirements and integrate systems.
- Generate and follow installation and testing procedures within a stringent client quality assurance system.
- Present design concepts and task status internally and to clients.
- Prepare written documentation, including final reports, test plans, test reports, system manuals, operating instructions, assembly instructions, and maintenance instructions.
- Develop task plans and schedules.
- Collaborate with Battelle engineers located at various sites to design, fabricate, and integrate new mechanical systems.
- Maintain, test, and troubleshoot existing mechanical systems independently or as part of a technical team.
- Support hands‑on laboratory work performing assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of systems.
- Travel and work temporary assignments for up to 120 days if needed.
- Bachelor's degree and 2–5 years of experience in a related field.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and willing to obtain a TS SCI clearance.
- Educational background in electronic, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
- Curious attitude toward developing creative solutions, problem solving, and system troubleshooting.
- Good communication skills (verbal and written).
- Computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, and Visio.
- Ability to work within a stringent client‑driven quality assurance program.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Working knowledge of CAD/modeling programs (Solid Works and/or Creo Pro/Engineer).
- Desire for hands‑on experience in laboratory and shop work.
- Willingness to get dirty during hands‑on work.
