INTERA Incorporated is seeking an experienced, proactive, and strategically minded Senior Water Resources Scientist/Engineer to support the Midwest region for our Water Resources and Supply line of business. This is a U.S.
-based role. We will consider candidates who wish to report to one of our office locations or who wish to work remotely. This position combines leadership in project delivery with a strong focus on business development, supporting continued growth across the Midwest. This role requires a deep understanding of the water industry, strong client relationship management capabilities, and the ability to cultivate partnerships that drive long‑term value.
Collaboration with technical teams, marketing staff, and executive leadership will be essential to expanding INTERA’s presence throughout the Midwest.
The Senior Water Resources Scientist/Engineer will lead the execution of high‑quality technical projects while playing a central role in identifying, pursuing, and securing new business opportunities within the water resources and supply sector. This position integrates client engagement, strategic growth initiatives, and technical project leadership. Responsibilities include managing and executing project scopes related to water resources and supply while advancing business development efforts in key Midwest markets.

Responsibilities
- Lead and support technical proposal preparation and business development activities
- Communicate with clients, agencies, and public stakeholders regarding complex water resources and supply projects
- Manage project scopes, budgets, schedules, and lead multi‑disciplinary teams
- Prepare technical reports and presentations for clients, regulators, and other interested parties
- Identify and cultivate relationships with prospective clients, including municipal utilities, state and local agencies, private developers, and industrial clients.
- Promote INTERA’s water‑related services to prospective clients
- Track and respond to RFPs, RFQs, and other procurement opportunities in alignment with company capabilities and growth goals
- Coordinate with technical teams to develop compelling proposals and presentations
- Attend industry conferences, association meetings, and client events to promote the firm’s capabilities and thought leadership
- Conduct market research and competitive analysis to inform strategic planning and sales targeting
- Maintain an active pipeline of opportunities and regularly report on business development metrics and forecasts
- Collaborate with internal marketing staff to develop tailored outreach and promotional materials
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil/environmental engineering, environmental science, or water‑resources related field
- 5+ years of experience in business development, sales, or client management within the water resources, environmental consulting, or engineering sector
- 5+ years of experience with project management and team coordination.
- Demonstrated knowledge of municipal and industrial water supply challenges and procurement processes
- Develop, execute, and oversee a business strategy that prioritizes growth and positive customer ratings
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of cross‑functional teams
Preferred Qualifications:
- Existing network of contacts in the Midwest water industry.
- Advanced degree or relevant certifications (e.g., MS, MBA, PE, PMP).
- Experience responding to public sector procurements.
- Knowledge of regional water regulatory frameworks and funding mechanisms.
Expected salary range: $100,000 — $130,000, depending on degree and experience.
