Job Summary

Provide service and support to internal and external customers, contractors and attorneys across the NiSource states to bill and recover damages to assets on behalf of the states. Routinely run reports in the Damage Prevention Tracking System (DPTS) and perform inquiries. Report and analyze trends, exceptions, and opportunities related to Pipeline Safety and Compliance. Use knowledge and skills on each individual damage case, applying appropriate analysis, evaluation, and investigation.

Maintain attention to detail and accurately capture financial data while following up on unpaid facility damage claims.

Essential Functions
  • Ensure prompt, accurate, and consistent invoicing, reconciliation, and recovery of facility damages.
  • Process Miscellaneous Revenue Accounting (MRA) adjustments, execute cash transfer requests, and remit journal voucher (C-690) forms.
  • Utilize WMS, MRA, DIS, and DPTS billing, information, and tracking software systems.
  • Conduct inbound and outbound communications related to facility damage billing, collections, and reporting.
  • Refer damage claims to external collection agencies and attorneys.
  • Issue 60‑day letter correspondence regarding billing invoices, payment, demand letters, and third‑party inquiries.
  • Interact with Contract Locators, Billing Exceptions, Payment Operations, Revenue Recovery, Hotline and Distribution Operations personnel.
  • Partner with Engineering Services on gas loss and legal discovery validation.
  • Improve communications, safety, and damage prevention with internal and external stakeholders using the DPTS Data Repository.
  • Increase revenue from facility damage collections, miscellaneous receivables, and net back from outside collection agencies and attorneys.
  • Exceed key metric results measured by facility damage scorecards.
  • Apply basic job procedures and tools gained through training and work experience.
  • Use existing procedures to bill and recover routine or standard damage bills.
  • Work under moderate supervision, following standard procedures and processes.
  • Complete Indiana IURC damage reporting.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 0‑2 years of experience or career equivalent in natural gas distribution operations, billing, and collections.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, including tact and diplomacy.
  • Strong decision‑making and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficient with personal computers running Windows.
  • Demonstrated analytical abilities.
  • Capability to function in an environment with ever‑changing priorities.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of billing/information systems: DIS, MRA, WMS, and DPTS.
  • Knowledge of state policies and procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of underground construction and utility line locating processes.
  • Basic understanding of state and federal requirements for facility locating.
  • Working knowledge of mainframe operations and billing support systems such as WMS, DIS, and Microsoft Office.
Preferred Additional Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Associate's Degree from an accredited college.
