The Kentucky State Park Ranger Division is recruiting Interim State Park Ranger I positions throughout Kentucky. This is an interim role, established for a one‑time or recurring need of less than nine (9) months duration and exempt from the classified service under KRS 18A.115.
CompensationPay Grade: 12
Salary: $18.31 – $27.47 hourly
Employment Type:
Executive Branch, less than 9 months maximum, eligible for overtime pay, 18A
- Enforce state laws on Kentucky State Park properties to protect guests and property.
- Provide trail rescues, first aid, general information, and other services to park guests.
- Work independently with minimal supervision and adapt to shifting shift schedules.
- Education: High school graduate.

Skills:
One year of law enforcement experience as a sworn police officer. - Substitute Education for

None. - Special Requirements: Must be twenty‑one years of age and possess a valid driver’s license. Must maintain a Peace Officer Professional Standards (POPS) certificate and other required licenses or credentials for the length of employment.
- Required Peace Officer Professional Standards (POPS) Certification.
- Working knowledge of Kentucky Revised Statutes.
- Ability to quickly learn the policies and procedures of the Kentucky State Parks and Ranger Division.
- Strong work ethic; able to work alone with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency with basic computer programs.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

- Additional $4,429 training stipend per year for adhering to the training guidelines of the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council (KLEC).
- Participation in the Kentucky Law Enforcement Foundation Program Fund (KLEFPF) and access to reciprocity programs.
Work outdoors in all types of weather conditions, performing duties consistent with law enforcement officers.
