Control Technician (Junior & Senior)

Assist with technical and specialized work of a skilled nature in connection with electrical and control systems; analyze, detect and repair single‑loop control systems, electronic devices, communication systems, and instruments such as meters, gauges and regulators. Assist others in making tests, surveys and layout work and develop reports documenting results.

Responsibilities
  • Locate and repair defects in control systems involving electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic or hydraulic components using wiring, schematic, logic or control diagrams.
  • Perform low, medium and high voltage circuit breaker electrical/mechanical interlock checks, repairs and adjustments.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on equipment such as batteries, motors, compressed air systems, fork‑lifts, electric heaters, HVAC systems, etc.
  • Make required equipment checks, inspections, tests and prepare reports, graphs, sketches and curves.
  • Compile and record data relating to projects, tests and investigations.
  • Assist in engineering layouts and prepare data for engineering procedures, specifications, contracts, bills of materials and requisitions.
  • Use the work‑management system to locate or request parts, create work requests/work orders and record work histories.
  • Request and accept permits and ensure equipment is properly cleared and tagged.
  • Assist in installing and removing grounds; perform control diagnostics on DCS and PLC systems; build live trends, force I/O and retrieve data from data collection and storage systems.
  • Perform mathematical calculations for power, power factor, fault current, heat rate and three‑phase AC circuit analysis.
  • Document all changes and maintain all standards and specifications in compliance with regulations.
  • Lead and direct other employees as needed; provide training and support.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Two‑year Associate’s degree in electronics, engineering or science; or high school diploma with at least 2years of related military experience, or 5years of related industrial technical electrical or controls experience.
  • Experience:

    Proven ability to perform installation, inspection, repair, adjustment, calibration and servicing of instruments and controls; experience with single‑loop control loops, instrumentation, DCS and PLC diagnostics.
  • Skills:

    Ability to read and interpret simple and moderately complex prints, sketches and specifications; ability to perform engineering calculations and use hand tools and motorized equipment.
  • Licenses/Certifications:

    Valid state driver’s license; knowledge of OSHA, regulatory and environmental guidelines.
  • Physical:
    Medium physical demand – lift up to 50lb, carry 35lb, push/pull up to 65lb, frequent walking and standing, climb ladders and stairs, squat and kneel, use hand tools and motorized equipment.
  • Other:
    Demonstrated ability to work under minimal direction, lead and direct other employees, report unsafe conditions and stop unsafe work.
Physical Demands
  • Lift up to 50 lbs; carry 35 lbs; push/pull up to 65 lbs.
  • Frequent walking and standing; climb ladders and stairs; squat and kneel.
  • Ability to use hand tools and motorized equipment.
  • Environmental conditions:

    cold, heat, dust, fumes.

  • Grade: U004–520
  • Range: $32.49–$52.62 per hour
