Minimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent.
Position SummaryAn entry‑level Boiler Operator will be trained by a journey worker to gain experience with boiler and steam plant operations, including safety, feedwater testing, high‑pressure boiler operation, pumps, motors, fuel controls, emergency generators, forced draft, safety devices and electronic computer‑operated controls. Within four years the employee should become fully qualified to operate the Central Steam Plant.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies- Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergencies
- Ability to read instruments
- Ability to maintain accurate records and interpret data
- Basic math skills
- Basic interactive computer skills
- Familiarity with basic hand tools and ability to make basic repairs when necessary
- Ability to understand and comply with moderately complex oral and written instructions
- Stand, walk, climb stairs, bend, stoop, work with hands above head
- Work from a standard and/or extended ladder
- Lift up to 75 lbs.
- Enter confined spaces
- Work in elevated ambient temperatures
- Work toward goal of becoming a fully qualified Boiler Operator – 50%
- Operate high‑pressure boilers by adjusting campus load as necessary – 30%
- Maintain boiler operating data/logs relative to CSP SOPs & state/federal regulations – 10%
- Assist maintenance technicians to make repairs to boiler/auxiliary equipment as needed – 10%
