Responsibilities

  • Practice psychiatric‑mental health nursing and provide first‑line supervision to patient care staff.
  • Perform general nursing tasks for the holistic care and treatment of patients’ medical and psychiatric needs.
  • Coordinate hospital functions and nursing services, including scheduling, job assignments, responding to call‑ins, and assuring appropriate staff levels.
  • Ensure quality of care on patient units and the smooth operation of the department’s functions.
  • Possess specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities obtained through education and experience in caring for persons with behavioral health needs, psychiatric disorders, and co‑occurring psychiatric and substance‑abuse disorders.
  • Participate in assessment, nursing diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, health teaching, and health promotion of a unique patient population.
  • Provide counseling interventions, including individual and group counseling; crisis intervention; stress management; supportive skill building; educational groups; relaxation techniques; assertiveness training; and conflict resolution.
  • Promote mission‑driven leadership focused on patient care and quality improvement.
  • Follow and enforce policies and procedures of the facility.
  • Adhere to and enforce time and attendance policies, including mandatory overtime, and be subject to recall to duty, held over, and irregular day/shift rotation as needed.
  • This position is deemed essential and has been designated for mandatory operations by the Appointing Authority; not eligible for Adverse Weather Leave.
