Position: Industrial Rehabilitation Nurse - PN: 20068801

BWC’s core hours of operation are Monday‑Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm, with daily start/end times varying by operational need. Most positions perform work on‑site at one of BWC’s seven offices across the state. BWC offers flex‑time schedules allowing an employee to start as early as 7:00am or as late as 8:30am, subject to supervisor approval.

Responsibilities
  • Complete assigned nurse referral tasks for clinical recommendations, including initial allowance(s), additional allowance(s), physician review/exam referrals, quality assurance reviews, ICD‑10 coding and description modification requests, and special medical functions for death claims, permanent and total disability claims, etc.
  • Review and analyze subjective and objective evidence for medical indicators to determine causation related to workplace injury/illness, identify cases requiring further clarification or physician review, and report on claims situations.
  • Serve as clinical subject‑matter expert on BWC medical service specialist (MSS) policies and procedures to internal and external parties, performing related duties as required.
  • Maintain data‑tracking processes, adhere to timeliness and quality standards, and participate in quality reviews as assigned.
  • Participate in problem‑solving for medical or claim barriers by collaborating with a multidisciplinary team (BWC Claims, Managed Care Organization (MCO), injured worker, employers, providers) to achieve optimal claim outcomes.
Qualifications & Certification
  • Current and valid licensed Registered Nurse (R.N.) in Ohio issued by the Board of Nursing, with at least 6 months licensed experience.
  • Knowledge of nursing practice, federal and state laws, BWC policies and procedures, case‑management strategies, ICD and ICD‑M codes, interviewing, public relations, medical techniques, procedures, and definitions.
  • Ability to interpret diagnoses, assess limitations, and write accurate medical reports based on claim data.
  • Read and comprehend medical charts, manuals, journals, policies, and guidelines.
  • Handle routine inquiries from injured workers, employers, physicians, attorneys, government officials, and providers.
  • Independently review medical bills to analyze costs and determine appropriateness.
