Quality Technician
Seeking a Technician with strong automotive quality metrology experience to support new model launches and pre-production activities. This role is responsible for verifying body weld tooling and part accuracy, supporting initial vehicle builds, and providing quality feedback during prototype and pre-production phases.
The ideal candidate will have experience with portable CMM equipment, sheet metal quality inspection, and body structure analysis within automotive or aerospace manufacturing environments.
Key Responsibilities- Verify body weld tooling and component accuracy using portable CMM equipment, including FARO, Vectorarm, and Perceptron systems.
- Inspect parts and assemblies using hand tools and quality checking fixtures.
- Gather and analyze part information from digital engineering systems such as Poly Works, CATIA, and 3D imaging software.
- Support sheet metal sub-assembly and body build trials during pre-production events.
- Troubleshoot equipment, tooling, parts, and fitment issues.
- Analyze part and sub-assembly data and provide feedback to project leaders and engineering teams.
- Participate in new model launches and first vehicle builds.
- Maintain schedules and support project timelines.
- Work effectively in both independent and team environments while adapting to changing priorities.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 2-5 years of automotive or aerospace quality metrology experience, preferably in sheet metal quality assurance.
- Hands-on experience using portable CMM equipment, scanners, and laser trackers, including FARO, Vectorarm, Leica, and Creaform.
- Experience with 3D inspection and comparison software, including Poly Works, CAM2, Scene, and PC-DMIS.
- Strong understanding of automotive body structures and dimensional quality processes.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and experience using hand tools for adjusting and modifying part datums.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to create and maintain schedules.
- Ability to work weekends, holidays, off-shifts, and overtime as required.
- Ability to perform medium to heavy physical work.
- Experience with CATIA and other 3D modeling software.
- Previous experience supporting new model launches and pre-production vehicle builds.
- Experience troubleshooting body fitment and tooling concerns in manufacturing environments.
- Portable CMM experience (FARO, Vectorarm, Perceptron, Leica, or Creaform)
- Automotive or aerospace metrology experience (2-5 years)
- Sheet metal quality inspection experience
- Body structure and weld tooling knowledge
- 3D inspection software experience (Poly Works, CAM2, Scene, PC-DMIS)
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills
- Ability to support pre-production builds and new model launch activities
