Job Overview
A staff Lab Manager / Research Associate position is available in the Joiner Lab at the University of Cincinnati. This role supports day‑to‑day laboratory operations and contributes to ongoing research projects. The position is supported by and subject to grant funding.
Applicants with a background in protein biochemistry or cell/molecular biology are preferred. The balance of responsibilities will be tailored to the successful applicant’s expertise and interests.
Essential FunctionsLaboratory Management and Operations
- Oversee routine laboratory upkeep, including equipment maintenance, inventories, ordering, and shared resources.
- Develop, maintain, and update laboratory protocols and documentation.
- Coordinate with institutional core facilities and ensure compliance with safety and training requirements.
Research and Scientific Contributions
- Lead and contribute to independent or collaborative research projects.
- Perform experiments aligned with expertise, including protein expression, purification, biochemical assays, cryo‑EM sample preparation, gene editing approaches, and cell‑based assays.
- Assist with experimental design, data analysis, and manuscript preparation.
Mentorship and Training
- Train and mentor new lab members, including graduate students, undergraduates, and postdoctoral researchers.
- Support an inclusive lab environment that values collaboration, scientific rigor, and professional growth.
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
Required Experience- In‑depth knowledge of a specialized field, process, or discipline.
- Experience with specialized software programs (if applicable).
- Master’s degree or PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or related field.
- Substantial hands‑on laboratory experience in protein biochemistry, cell biology, gene editing, or cell‑based assays.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative working style.
- Experience with protein purification and in‑vitro biochemical assays.
- Experience with gene editing technologies (e.g., CRISPR/Cas).
- Prior experience mentoring or training junior researchers.
- Familiarity with laboratory safety, equipment maintenance, and shared resource management.
Office environment; no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
