Position Overview

Title:

Research Technologist. Department: SOM-Research, University of Georgia.

Position Summary

The Research Technologist will support the Ledford Lab in advancing the University of Georgia’s multidisciplinary, translational research initiatives focused on airway disease and asthma prevention. The work will involve conducting laboratory experiments, processing human cell samples, and maintaining a mouse colony; coordinating lab operations; and working collaboratively with graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and undergraduates. The role includes bi-weekly lab meetings and presentations.

Responsibilities
  • Regulatory compliance: maintain regulatory training and coordinate inspections and approvals (chemicals, animals, biohazards).
  • Day-to-day lab operations: ordering supplies, organizing lab meetings, and performing other duties as assigned.
  • Technical training: conduct performance checks, train staff and students on complex laboratory techniques and equipment (e.g., Flexivent).
  • Experimental execution: process human cells, maintain animal colony, update protocols to optimize procedures.
  • Research support: plan, design, and execute multiple research projects; support publication preparation; participate and present at seminars and group meetings.
Qualifications
  • Minimum:
    Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of laboratory research principles, including experimental design and data collection methods.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaboration and presentation of research findings.
  • Knowledge of translational research concepts, particularly related to airway disease and asthma.
  • Ability to design and execute research experiments with minimal supervision.
  • Maintaining accurate records, protocols, and compliance documentation.
  • Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a research setting.
  • Attention to detail and ensure accuracy in experimental procedures and documentation.
  • Adapt protocols and optimize procedures for improved research outcomes.
  • Skilled in conducting complex laboratory experiments and troubleshooting procedures.
Benefits and Work Schedule

Full-time, exempt position; FTE 1.00. Salary: commensurate with experience.

Work schedule:

Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Flexibility may be needed occasionally, including evenings or weekends.
