Research Professional (Limited-Term)
Position Summary:
This position has a limited term appointment expected to end one year after the start date. The position may be extended beyond the initial term, contingent upon continued funding for up to 3 years. The individual will join a popular functional genomics research team to investigate molecular regulation of various agronomy traits.
Primary duties will be greenhouse and nursery plant care, including propagation, weeding, fertilization, biocontrol application for pest control, plant monitoring during stress treatments, tissue sampling and record keeping. The individual will also assist with a variety of other greenhouse and nursery maintenance tasks (cleaning, composting, scouting for pests, transplanting, watering).
Responsibilities- Greenhouse and nursery plant care and management – 60%
- Plant propagation and inventory – 30%
- Data entry and record keeping – 10%
- Minimum:
High school diploma or equivalent. - Preferred:
Any additional relevant experience or education.
- Carry out detailed plant care instructions.
- Strong observational skills.
- Understand and adjust cultural methods in a constantly changing environment.
- Work independently, use good judgment, and troubleshoot technical activities.
- Organizational skills, precision, and self‑awareness.
- Lift 40-50 pounds (e.g., a bag of potting soil).
- Drive state vehicle as needed to perform job tasks.
- Greenhouse work conditions will include hot humid weather and inclement weather.
- Occasional/flexible work hours for time-sensitive tasks.
