Diesel Technician

Position Description

Ryder is hiring an experienced Mid-Level Diesel Technician in Roanoke, Virginia — offering weekly pay, excellent benefits, and a Technician career you can feel good about.

• Hourly Pay: $25.00 per hour
• Certification Bonus of $100 for each new ASE certification obtained, up to $700
• Quarterly bonus: up to $500 every quarter
• Schedule:
  
  Monday–Friday, weekends off
• Hours:
  
  Second shift, 1:30 pm – 10:00 pm

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Vocational or technical certification; post‑secondary degree or technical certifications preferred
• Basic tools required
• Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work) required
• Two or more years of combined classroom training and work experience required; preferred if more
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A preferred
• Must be able to obtain a CDL within 6 months after hire
• Pass a Ryder drug test
• Pass a DOT physical
• Pass a Ryder road test
• Pass a Ryder background and motor‑vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years

• Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties
• Perform standard vehicle maintenance and preventive maintenance
• Conduct standard component inspections and repairs
• Diagnose standard mechanical and electronic problems, utilizing diagnostic computers when applicable
• Identify root causes of basic failures and perform repairs as required
• Replace defective components as instructed
• Perform facility maintenance duties
• Interact with customers/drivers to determine the nature of complaints once assigned a task
• Utilize key functions of the shop management system and electronic documentation available
• Work in accordance with all federal, provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT)
• Perform other support duties as required to support operations, which may include but are not limited to service island support
