The Fire Alarm Technician is responsible for testing, inspecting, and maintaining fire alarm systems, and providing accurate inspection reports and documentation. Technicians may also assist in selling IFP services for identified deficiencies.

- Pull wiring, install conduit, and mount devices.
- Possess an aptitude for electrical theory and the ability to learn; this is considered a requirement.
- Program, test, inspect, and service fire alarm systems.
- Perform site verifications of fire alarm installations.
- Read and interpret fire alarm drawings.
- Cover on‑call hours for servicing customers, including nights and weekends on a rotating basis.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Interact with clients, field personnel, and AHJs.
- Installation of fire alarm equipment.
- Ideal candidates have cross‑training in all fire protection fields (fire alarm, clean agent/special hazards, fire extinguisher, fixed wet/dry chemical suppression systems, backflow prevention, fire sprinkler, emergency lighting) preferred.
- Hold relevant manufacturers and state licenses for fire alarm inspection of suppression systems.
- Strong knowledge of NFPA codes and industry standards; maintain good habits and avoid cutting corners.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills with outstanding customer‑facing service and problem‑solving skills.
- Stay current with code requirements and industry changes.
- PC skills including Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Noise tolerance varies by site (quiet in libraries/public offices, moderate in business offices).
- Communicate job status and concerns to leaders effectively.
- Maintain a clean and organized work truck.
- Dress appropriately and represent IFP professionally; required PPE must be worn.
- Can withstand heights and climb ladders comfortably.
- Willing to pass a post‑offer drug test, background and reference check.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience; one to three months of related experience and/or training also acceptable.
- Electronic Trade School training is a plus.
- NICET I or II certification or willingness to obtain certification within one year.
- Lift up to 50 lbs with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Regular bending, reaching, climbing, and walking.
