Position SummaryThis position involves skilled manual and technical work at near‑journeyman level in multiple trades. The employee will primarily perform preventive maintenance on building systems and equipment in high containment BSL facilities and laboratories under the supervision of a BSL Tech Lead, coordinating with the College of Veterinary Medicine and the Facilities Management Division. The role requires on‑call duties and occasional nights/weekends.
The incumbent must obtain and maintain Federal Select Agent & Tier 1 Clearance and comply with federal and state regulations.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least two years of experience performing general trades work in similar facilities.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Good decision‑making ability.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Proficiency with standard hand tools and equipment common to mechanical and structural trades.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to perform administrative functions related to building systems maintenance (record filing, form completion, etc.).
- Must stand, walk, climb stairs, stoop, bend, squat, crawl, and lift up to 75 lb.
- Must work in confined spaces wearing appropriate PPE for BSL 3 AG environment.
- Must drive for job duties as required.
- Perform preventive maintenance on building systems and equipment in BSL facilities and laboratories.
- Troubleshoot and repair minor or non‑complex problems with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural systems, assisting senior technicians.
- Maintain documentation and communication regarding BSL conditions, inspections, calibrations, and other facility matters.
- Participate in 24/7 emergency response for system problems affecting BSL facilities.
- Keep up‑to‑date on BSL rules, regulations, procedures, and safety protocols, adhering to all requirements.
- Assist and support other duties as assigned by the BSL Facilities Maintenance Tech Lead.
