Under the direction of the Parks and Facilities Administrator, the Sustainability Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing comprehensive community-wide sustainability programs. The Coordinator collaborates with internal and external stakeholders on all sustainability-related functions of the City and creates, implements, and evaluates internal and external programs, operations, and educational opportunities.
This position reports to the Parks and Facilities Administrator.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive community-wide sustainability programs and special events; direct and coordinate all sustainability-related functions of the City; create, implement, and evaluate internal and external programs, operations, and educational opportunities; work closely with internal and external stakeholders to enhance sustainability efforts; coordinate with the Community Affairs Department to promote opportunities through all available channels including the bi-monthly Community Guide;

    assist in developing budgets for projects and annual cycles related to assigned programs;
  • Engage and connect target audiences with local, regional, and national resources that advance sustainability best practices through education, tools, and support.
  • Review and develop data collection methods for assigned programs, projects, and special events.
  • Prepare an annual sustainability report detailing City accomplishments and activities.
  • Meet all job safety requirements and all applicable safety standards that pertain to essential functions; must demonstrate regular and predictable attendance; maintain required licenses and/or certifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • EQUIPMENT OPERATED

    The following are examples only and are not intended to be all inclusive: calculator, computer, computer software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and other applicable computer software), copier, scanner, telephone, and other standard modern business office equipment, and motor vehicles. Tools and equipment related to light field work for sustainability initiatives including shovels, loppers, handsaw and utility vehicles.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

    The employee is exposed to chemical compounds found in an office environment (e.g., toner, correction fluid, etc.); this is considered sedentary work and the employee must demonstrate the ability to perform the physical demands required of the position in accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor’s physical demands strength ratings. Work will occasionally include outdoor initiatives impacted by weather and the environment.

    Examples include supporting volunteer activities and assisting other initiatives including recycling. In cases of emergency, unpredictable situations, and/or department needs, the employee may be required to lift, push, pull, and/or carry objects heavier than D.O.L. strength ratings recommend.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    • Possession of a bachelor’s degree preferred.
    • Two (2) to five (5) years of experience in sustainability or related experience.
    • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Ohio driver’s license and remain insurable under the City’s vehicle insurance policy.
    • Any combination of education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the minimum qualifications stated above.
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
    • KNOWLEDGE OF: city goals and objectives; city policies and procedures; project management; word processing; spreadsheet and presentation software; web design; social media platforms and/or graphic design.
    • SKILL IN: use of modern office equipment and software; critical thinking, judgment, and decision making; excellent written and verbal communication.
    • ABILITY TO: demonstrate professionalism; apply management principles to solve agency problems; serve as a role model; demonstrate sound judgment; resolve problems and conflicts equitably and maintain a forward-moving team environment; composure and professionalism under pressure; complete work accurately and effectively in a timely manner; develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders; define problems, collect, and evaluate data;

      establish facts and draw valid conclusions; work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, as needed; maintain confidentiality and use appropriate judgment in handling information and records; convey sustainability topics/issues to the public in an easy to understand manner.
