Job Title: Teacher – Special Education (All SPED certification areas) Pool
Supervisor: Principal/Special Education Administrator
FLSA: Exempt
Terms of Employment: 190 days
Qualifications- South Carolina Teacher Certification in an appropriate area.
- Degree(s) required and area of major study from an accredited college or university.
- Prior job experience preferred.
- Other alternatives to the above qualifications may be deemed appropriate by the Board.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and times designated.
- Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures, maintaining order in a fair manner.
- Plans a program of study that meets individual student needs, interests, and abilities.
- Develops lesson plans and organizes daily classes to allow demonstration, instruction, and practice within allotted time.
- Guides the learning process toward curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives.
- Uses a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet diverse student needs.
- Assesses student accomplishments regularly and provides progress reports as required.
- Diagnoses learning abilities and disabilities, seeking assistance from district specialists as needed.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and district policy.
- Instructs pupils on use, care, and safe operation of equipment and requests repairs when necessary.
- Serves as a role model.
- Maintains professional competence through in‑service education activities.
- Communicates with parents and school counselors about pupil progress.
- Supervises pupils in out‑of‑classroom activities during the assigned work day.
- Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
- Works cooperatively with classroom teachers when appropriate.
- Confers frequently with parents and professional staff about student educational, social, and personal issues.
- Assists other staff in resolving psychological or disciplinary problems.
- Assists in screening, evaluating, and recommending placement of students.
- Counsels individuals and groups on educational, occupational, and personal problems.
- Assists students in realistic assessment of abilities and goal setting.
- Generates an Individual Education Plan at year‑end and prepares behavioral intervention plans.
- Supervisor may assign related duties as needed.
Manual dexterity for computer data entry, vision and hearing at normal classroom levels, and physical agility to lift up to 40 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be provided.
