Job Title
:
Bus Monitors (Temporary Position - as needed throughout the school year - will need to notify Transportation if already in the pool / temp or apply yearly)

Supervisor
:
Transportation Director and/or Route Coordinator

Term of Employment
: 180 days

Wage Category:Non Exempt

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Certified in first aid and CPR (adult and child) preferred
  • Prior job experience required
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as District Administration may find appropriate and acceptable

Job Summary

Help ensure the safety of students while they are on the bus, boarding, and exiting.

They work with the bus driver to provide support to students with and without disabilities, and to maintain order according to district policy.

Essential Duties

  • Help students board and exit:

    Assist students with disabilities or behavioral issues, and ensure they reach their parents or guardians
  • Secure passengers:

    Buckle seatbelts and fasten wheelchair tie-down straps
  • Maintain order:

    Announce routes and stops, and communicate behavioral problem
  • Intervene:

    Stop any situations that could lead to injury or mistreatment
  • Prepare for emergencies:

    Assist in emergency evacuations, and know the location of bus stops
  • Report issues and communicates with the driver, school administration, routing coordinator and/or school administration about issues that need attention
  • FollowFERPA:

    Ensure the confidentiality of student records, behavior, and ridership
  • Monitors students while on bus; maintains safety and order on the bus, ensures students wear seatbelts (if available)
  • Assists driver by providing first aid to ill or injured students/ utilizes PPE (Personal Protective Equipment when determined and/or appropriate
  • Assists bus driver with routes, directions and while the vehicle is driving in reverse.
  • Assists with the District's Green Card procedures
  • Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours and as needed.
  • Supervisor may assign other duties as needed
