Pipefitter / Fabrication Technician

This role focuses on fitting, laying out, and preparing piping and structural materials for fabrication in a large industrial shop environment. You will interpret blueprints and P&IDs, select and prepare materials, and support welding and assembly activities for complex engineered systems used across North America.

Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret blueprint drawings and P& to determine layout, material requirements, and fabrication steps.
  • Select appropriate types and sizes of pipe, steel, and related materials and equipment based on project specifications.
  • Cut materials using saws, pipe cutters, hammers and chisels, cutting torches, and pipe cutting machines.
  • Fit materials in proper sequence to be welded, either in a positioner, by hand, or using machines.
  • Lay out and thread pipe using a pipe threading machine, ensuring accurate measurements and alignment.
  • Perform layout work on materials, marking cut lines, weld locations, and assembly points according to blueprints.
  • Tack weld pipe and structural components to hold assemblies in place prior to final welding.
  • Collaborate with welders, electricians, engineers, and production team members to complete fabrication and assembly tasks.
  • Follow safety procedures, use required PPE, and operate tools and equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Support fast-paced production schedules by working efficiently to meet project deadlines.
  • Provide occasional field support as needed for installation or troubleshooting of fabricated systems.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and contribute to the overall orderliness of the fabrication facility.
Essential Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and P&.
  • Proficiency in layout of pipe and structural materials for fabrication.
  • Ability to tack weld pipe and structural components safely and accurately.
  • Experience using pipe threading machines for layout and threading operations.
  • Skill in cutting materials using saws, pipe cutters, hammers and chisels, cutting torches, and pipe cutting machines.
  • Knowledge of pipe fitting practices, including fitting, layout, and assembly of piping systems.
  • Comfort working in a hands-on industrial fabrication environment involving piping, welding, structural assembly, and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including standing, lifting, bending, climbing, and manual labor throughout the shift.
  • Commitment to following safety procedures and using required PPE in a production environment.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large, well-organized and clean fabrication facility that is non-climate controlled. The standard shift runs from 7:00 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. on Friday, with overtime during busy seasons that can reach 65–70 hours per week. Work takes place primarily in a shop/manufacturing environment, with occasional opportunities to support field activities.

The setting is hands-on and industrial, involving piping, welding, structural assembly, mechanical systems, and regular use of power tools, cutting equipment, threading machines, and material handling equipment. The job requires frequent standing, lifting, bending, climbing, and manual labor throughout the shift.
