Position Overview

Title: Elementary Music Teacher

Reports To: Principal

FLSA Status: Exempt

Salary Range: $57,000 – $70,222 per annum

Work Days: 187

Location: Gateway College Prep School, Georgetown, Texas

Position Summary

Provide students with rigorous learning activities and experiences in elementary music to develop competencies and skills for success in elementary education.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with campus and district staff to determine instructional goals and serve all student needs.
  • Use varied instructional strategies, materials, and technology that address diverse learning styles.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Communicate accurately and clearly to students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Leverage technology to strengthen teaching and learning.
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Provide instruction that accommodates students’ IEP requirements.
  • Create a safe, conducive classroom environment for physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities.
  • Report and communicate student progress to parents.
  • Resolve parent/student issues and concerns promptly.
  • Model positive behavior for students.
  • Manage student behavior in line with the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Assist in monitoring students and ensuring a safe campus by reporting duty assignments as directed by the principal.
  • Attend campus events and extracurricular activities as assigned.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and instructional materials.
  • Participate in all continuing professional development and relevant ARD meetings.
  • Compile, maintain, and submit required reports, records, and documents.
  • Analyze critical needs in assigned areas and collaborate on program improvement.
  • Promote and contribute to campus‑wide initiatives, including AVID.
  • Protect confidentiality of students and families.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities.
  • Support the mission and vision of the campus and district.
  • Adhere to campus and district policies and procedures.
  • Comply with federal and state laws, including State Board of Education and local board policy.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Successful completion of student teaching or comparable experience at a recognized postsecondary institution.
  • Knowledge of principles, theories, methods, techniques, and strategies for teaching elementary music.
  • Strong curriculum development skills and integrating technology into daily instruction.
  • Design, develop, and implement subject‑area curriculum based on best practices.
  • Provide effective and innovative learning experiences at a college‑preparatory level.
  • Create an inviting, stimulating learning environment and develop positive relationships with students.
  • Perform duties that involve walking, sitting, standing, indoor and outdoor activities, and some lifting.
  • Maintain general physical and emotional health to perform duties effectively.
  • Regularly lift and carry 1–25 pounds.
  • Handle high levels of mental alertness and stress tolerance.
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certificate with required endorsements for elementary music (EC‑6).
