Position: Assistant Professor/Instructor of Education - Schools, Society, & Diversity (Part-Time)
The Department of Education at Southwestern University invites applications for a Part-time Instructor/Assistant Professor to teach Schools, Society, and Diversity in Fall 2026 and/or Spring 2027. This course examines diversity in schools and society, emphasizing culture, ethnicity, exceptionality, gender, language, sexual orientation, ability, and social class, with attention to implications for educational policy, curriculum, and methodology. The course contributes to Race and Ethnicity Studies and requires an instructor who can support rigorous, evidence-based analysis while facilitating thoughtful dialogue across differences.

The successful candidate will be experienced in teaching from an intersectional lens, grounding discussions in scholarship and lived realities while maintaining a classroom climate that is academically serious, respectful, and student-centered. Candidates should be prepared to connect course themes to classroom practice, teacher decision-making, and public policy.

* Master's degree in Education, Educational Foundations, Curriculum & Instruction, Multicultural Education, Sociology of Education, Educational Policy, or a closely related field

* Ph.D./Ed.D. in a related field preferred

* Demonstrated ability to teach diversity-related content with strong facilitation skills and clear academic expectations

* Experience connecting equity frameworks to schooling (policy, curriculum, pedagogy, classroom practice)

* Familiarity with key areas such as culturally responsive/sustaining pedagogy, disability and inclusion, language diversity, and identity-based inequities in education
